Knee/hip replacement surgery

Medical history discussed before surgery with an orthopedist and anesthesiologist

Day 1
• reception in the clinic, interview with doctor and nurse (gathering information about diseases, medicines taken, etc.)
• creating patient’s medical file containing all necessary medical information, general medical examination (blood pressure, EEC, blood samples for testing and transfusion)
• preoperative preparation activities
- preparation of operating theatre
- preparation of patient for surgery
(preparation of operating site, premedication administering an anesthetic, intramuscular injection, dressing the patient for surgery, transferring the patient to the operating theatre)
• postoperative procedures
- transferring the patient to the ward –postoperative
patient monitoring – blood pressure and pulse measurement, monitoring of life parameters,
anesthetic, blood transfusion
- medical examination by orthopedist and
anesthesiologist
- initiation of pharmacological treatment - antibiotics, infusion solutions, thrombosis prevention

Day 2
• medical examination (twice daily), pharmacotherapy, nursing care (change of bedding,
washing the patient, monitoring life parameters), beginning of rehabilitation in bed

Day 3
• medical examination (twice daily),
pharmacotherapy, nursing care, rehabilitation,
change of dressing (orthopedist and nurse), removal
of draining tube (orthopedist and nurse), control
X-ray

Day 4
• medical examination (twice daily),
pharmacotherapy, nursing care, rehabilitation

Day 5
• medical examination (twice daily),
pharmacotherapy, nursing care, rehabilitation,
change of dressing (orthopedist and nurse)

Day 6 and 7
• medical examination (twice daily),
pharmacotherapy, nursing care, rehabilitation

Day 8
• medical examination, pharmacotherapy, nursing
care, rehabilitation, removal of stitches, change of
dressing (orthopedist and nurse)
